CHORUS

Baba yetu, yetu uliye

Mbinguni yetu, yetu, amina!

Baba yetu, yetu, uliye

Jina lako litukuzwe.

(x2)

Utupe leo chakula chetu

Tunachohitaji utusamehe

Makosa yetu, hey!

Kama nasi tunavyowasamehe

Waliotukosea usitutie

Katika majaribu, lakini

Utuokoe, na yule, milelea milele!

CHORUS

Ufalme wako ufike utakalo

Lifanyike duniani kama mbinguni. (Amina)

CHORUS

Utupe leo chakula chetu

Tunachohitaji utusamehe

Makosa yetu, hey!

Kama nasi tunavyowasamehe

Waliotukosea usitutie

Katika majaribu, lakini

Utuokoe, na yule, simovu mwehu (?)

Baba yetu, yetu, uliye

Jina lako litukuzwe.

I love this song. A lot. I mean seriously I’ve probably listened to it over a hundred times. At first, since I didn’t know what they were singing about, I just liked the musical arrangement (as an Music major) but then I found out that the lyrics were actually the Lord’s Prayer in Swahili. And I found that so awe-inspiring. When you listen how the sound and music is, it’s so uplifting paired up with what we usually think are very solemn words (we say this every Lord’s Supper after all) and it just gave me a new meaning to the words. I don’t know how to describe the feelings I get every time (and I really do mean every time) when I listen to this song. How great and awesome our God is and yet merciful and loving a Father that He would send His beloved Son to die on the cross for me. So, every time I listen to this song, I rejoice and praise Him.
